Handmade Wet Felted Wool Crafts

Wet felting is one of the oldest textile techniques, dating back thousands of years – long before weaving or knitting were developed. The process involves matting and binding wool fibres together using heat, moisture, and agitation to create a dense fabric. Today, artists like me use it for decorative items and fashion, blending traditional techniques with creative expression.

Some pieces are ready to purchase straight away, while others can be made to order, giving you the chance to request something truly personal.

Caring for your wet felted items

To help your wet felted items last and keep its shape, follow these simple steps:

Weekly care

  • Give it a good shake outdoors to remove dust and freshen the fibres.
  • If moths are a concern in your home, treat occasionally with a natural moth repellent.
  • Avoid using a vacuum cleaner, as this can damage the felt structure.

Washing (only if absolutely necessary)

  • Wash in lukewarm water (max 30 °C) with a gentle wool or silk detergent (low pH).
  • Never use fabric softener — it hardens the fibres.
  • Gently squeeze the item and let it soak for a few minutes.
  • Rinse briefly in cold water until clear.
  • Press out excess water (do not wring).
  • Reshape while damp and leave to air dry naturally.
