Handmade Rugs & Pads Off The Peg Loom
Peg loom weaving is one of the oldest and simplest forms of textile weaving, with roots tracing back thousands of years. It involves weaving threads, yarns, or strips of fabric around pegs set into a wooden board, creating a flexible fabric or rug.

Care for your woven rugs and pads
These handmade pieces will serve you well for years if cared for properly:
Weekly care
- Take outside and give a good shake to loosen dust and refresh the fibres.
- Avoid vacuuming, as this can disturb the fibre structure.
- Use a natural moth repellent if moths are common in your home.
Washing
- Fill a tub with lukewarm water (max 30 °C).
- Add a gentle wool or silk detergent with low pH.
- Submerge the rug or pad, swish gently, then soak for about an hour.
- Rinse with cold water. Refill the tub with cold water plus a splash of vinegar (restores wool’s natural pH and removes residue). Optional: add a few drops of lavender, cedarwood, or tea tree oil to deter moths.
- Drain, press out excess water, then lay flat or hang to dry.
- Once dry, gently separate the locks of wool with your fingers if needed. Do not brush.
